Tree Helps Plane Make Soft Crash Landing Into Parking Lot

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A pilot walks away from a plane crash thanks to a well-placed tree.

The crash happened on Sept. 11 in Plainville, Connecticut. Security footage shows a single-engine Cessna veering sideways before clipping the top of a tree and landing in the middle of a parking lot.

Local media said the pilot, 79-year-old Manfred Frost, was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

He told NBC Connecticut News, he was just thankful to have escaped the crash without major injury.

According to the Hartford Courant, the small plane was coming in to land at Robertson Field Airport when it veered off course. The parking lot it crashed in is several hundred feet west of the airport runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash and won’t yet comment but Fox 61 said officials said there might have been a small fuel leak.
