Six Philippine Senators Now Call for Aguirre’s Resignation

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — More Philippine senators are now calling for the resignation of Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II.

Joining the call are Sens. Franklin Drilon, Kiko Pangilinan, Bam Aquino IV, Leila de Lima and Antonio Trillanes IV.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros first called for Aguirre’s resignation on Sept. 11 after a photo caught Aguirre texting a contact named “Cong Jing.”

Hontiveros alleged “Cong Jing,” could be former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto “Jing” Paras, who’s a member of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption.

The photo shows Aguirre telling “Cong Jing” to expedite cases against Hontiveros.

It’s not clear what case Aguirre may want to file against Hontiveros.

However, Hontiveros alleges Aguirre’s text was an ethics violation worthy of resignation.

In a statement, Aguirre called Hontiveros unethical, saying the way she released his private text message was “unbecoming of a public servant.”
