UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) —Family members are helping to piece together details about the shooting spree that claimed eight lives inside a Plano, Texas, home.
Plano police confronted and killed the gunman on Sunday night, Sept. 10, and Chief Gregory W. Rushin said the scene was unlike any they’ve seen in the city before.
The gunman has since been identified as Spencer Hight, the estranged husband of 27-year-old Meredith Hight, who was hosting a cookout for the Dallas Cowboys football game.
Meredith Hight was among the eight victims shot to death Sunday night. Her mother tells television station WFAA, “As time passed we assumed the worst.”
Court records indicate Monday would have been the estranged couple’s sixth wedding anniversary.
Earlier this year, an advocacy group called Everytown for Gun Safety found that a majority (54 percent) of the mass shootings in the U.S. involved a current or former intimate partner or family member.
