Hontiveros Calls for Resignation of Aguirre Over ‘Unethical’ Text

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Philippine Sen. Risa Hontiveros has called for the resignation of Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II.

In a speech on Sept. 11, Hontiveros alleged Aguirre had ordered the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, or VACC, to expedite a case against her.

As evidence, Hontiveros showed a photo someone took of Aguirre’s phone during a recent senate hearing on the death of Kian Delos Santos.

At that moment, Aguirre was texting a contact named “Cong Jing.”

Hontiveros alleged “Cong Jing,” could be former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto “Jing” Paras, who’s a member of VACC.

In the text conversation, “Cong Jing” says Hontiveros already briefed the witnesses and asked them leading questions. Aguirre then replied, “That’s what I was saying. Very obvious. This is why we should expedite your cases against her.”

Hontiveros said Aguirre’s “continued stay in office is a vulgar insult to the Filipino people and our efforts for a more just society.”
