UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A Filipino won the first-ever Miss Nature Intercontinental beauty pageant.
Sarah Christine Bona, 26, was awarded the crown in Poland on Sept. 9, beating candidates from countries like Austria, Iran and the U.S.
Bona is from Iriga City, Camarines Sur, and she’s a licensed midwife, nurse and caregiver.
She competed in Binibining Pilipinas last year, and she placed in the top five at this year’s Miss ASEAN Friendship contest.
Miss Nature Intercontinental is a five-day long contest that focuses on conservation, environmental education and promoting healthy living.
During the question and answer section, Bona was asked how people can take care of rainforests.
She responded, “We may be the biggest threat, but we can also be its savior.”
Bona recommended that Filipinos continue to raise awareness for environmental issues through education and social media.
