Walmart Apologizes for ‘Horrible’ Gun Display

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A “back-to-school” sign inside one Walmart store has sparked outrage.

A photo of a banner hanging directly above a gun display circulated over social media on Aug. 9, drawing harsh criticism from customers.

The sign read, “Own the school year like a hero.”

Twitter and Reddit users slammed the retailer for the placement of the banner, with some making a connection between firearms and school shootings in the U.S. Others demanded an explanation from the retailer.

Walmart responded to some of the comments, calling the display “horrible” and “truly awful” on Twitter.

The company apologized, saying it would investigate how this happened and noted it would never approve of such sign placement.

According to a Washington Post report, the banner appears to be part of an ongoing superhero-themed marketing campaign that is not related to guns.
