PHL Defeats Iraq, 84-68, at 2017 FIBA Asia Cup

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — The Philippines rolled past Iraq to remain undefeated at the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Guard Terrence Romeo led the way with 17 points, and power forward Christian Standhardinger muscled in 16 points of his own, as the Philippines pulled away from Iraq in the third quarter and never looked back.

The final score was 84-68 on Friday, Aug. 11, as the Philippines improves to 2-0 in group play.

With head-to-head victories over Iraq and China, the Philippine squad has already secured first place in its group and a spot in the quarterfinals.

Teams from across Asia, Oceania and parts of the Middle East have converged on Lebanon for a tournament to decide a continental basketball champion.

Up next for the Philippines is Qatar, which is averaging just over 66 points through its first two games, both losses. The Philippines, meanwhile, is putting up 90 points per game.

The Asia Cup will continue through Aug. 20 in Beirut.
