Bus Crash Kills 36 in Shaanxi, China

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A bus crash in China has killed at least 36 people and injured 13, according to state media.

The bus was carrying 49 passengers on its way to Luoyang from the city of Chengdu.

The crash took place just before midnight on Aug. 10 in the northwestern province of Shaanxi.

The large coach bus reportedly crashed into the wall at the mouth of a mountain tunnel while driving on an expressway.

Pictures of the aftermath show the front of the bus completely smashed in.

Xinhua news agency reports at least seven people are in critical condition and being treated at area hospitals.

No possible cause of the crash has been reported, but Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun has reportedly ordered an investigation.

Traffic deaths are not uncommon in China. Just last month, 11 people were killed when a bus collided with a truck on a highway in Hebei province.
