Colleagues Say Kenyan Election Official ‘Tortured’

UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Colleagues of a Kenyan election official say he was tortured and killed days before the country’s presidential elections.

Chris Msando helped develop the voting-system technology to be used in Kenya’s upcoming August 8 presidential elections.

Msando disappeared few days ago.

According to The Guardian, authorities found both his body and the body of an unidentified woman Saturday, July 29, outside Nairobi.

The chair of the electoral commission said, “There’s no doubt that he was tortured and murdered.”

Msando was due to oversee public testing of the new voting system that electoral officials said would help ensure credible voting results in Kenya.

The presidential race is reportedly close and both sides have accused the other of using underhanded tactics to win.

According to local news sources, both the United States and the United Kingdom have offered to support Kenyan officials in investigating Msando’s death.
